Winter in Southern Illinois
By Joe Wall
April 30, 2008

Winter is a hard time.  A hard time to be outside for all climbers.  Good weather days are few all across the country.  Some climbers brave the cold weather and others just wait and climb in a gym.  Sometimes the rock calls to loudly and obsessed climbers make bad decisions.  Like deciding to go climbing in the Midwest.  Or the bad decision to go climbing in the Midwest  on a weekend that calls for -20 weather.

I made this decision.  Sure peoples fingers freeze to crimpers.  The feet can turn to bricks in tight shoes.  The chill crawls up the spine while projecting a route.  It is not the most comfortable climbing conditions.  But it is still climbing, and it is always worth it.

I miss all of you, and think about you often.
Take it easy,
Joe
