About Us

Wild Iris Mountain Sports was started in 1990 by Amy and Todd Skinner with two major tenets in mind: to employ climbers and provide a source of equipment for those climbers. It quickly became a gathering place for locals and visitors seeking to enjoy the Wind River backcountry. WIMS is now known as the undisputed source for information on climbing and backpacking in the area.

It all began in a small house on the corner of Third and Lincoln Streets in Lander, selling primarily used climbing equipment. In late 1991 the store moved to a Main Street location four times the size of the original house. Over the following years the store continued to grow forcing an eventual move in 1998 to our current location at 333 Main Street. Each of these expansions was spurred on by the growing needs of our local climbing community.

Now 20 years later, our mission remains the same; provide the best equipment and information available to our customers.
